Our thoughts on the pads
One majorly overlooked, yet critical element when it comes to a gaming rig is a mousepad. It doesn’t make the game run smoother or give it crisper details but it makes gaming alot easier. It improves tactile response and allows your movements to have more speed, comfort, and precision while gaming. Behold! The mousepad! Today, RBMods takes a look at three new Logic Mats from XTracPads. They come with a reusable adhesive backing to help prevent them from slipping and sliding on your desktop surface. Let’s take a look at how they work.

*Fast and accurate Mouse Surface
*Easy to remove semi-adhesive backing for multi-desktop usage
*Ergonomic ultra-low profile
*Simple to setup, easy to clean
*Measures 8.5″ x 11″ (216mm x 280mm)
The XtracPads Logic Mat comes packaged in a clearly labeled envelope-style cardboard folder with a large picture showing off the mousepad’s patterned style. At the bottom right corner of the package there is a circular cutout so that you can feel the pad’s texture before walking it to the checkout aisle.
The back of the package showcases the product’s features, along with instructions for installation, removal, and cleaning. Before opening the package, first you must remove the circular plastic sticker that ensures the product is securely packaged during transport.
When you are ready to install the mousepad on your desk, just slide it out of the cardboard envelope. A case badge is included along with the pad to help you show off where you have your awesome mousepad.
Before adhering the mat to your desk, you should clean the installation surface to make sure it will stick properly. Also, you should probably install this mat on a flat surface so that you can get the maximum possible lifespan and performance out of your mousepad.
After cleaning your desk, peel the reusable backing from the mousepad, revealing the adhesive bottom. Then, all you have to do is flip it over and stick it to your desk. Just make sure to avoid wrinkles! If you ever need to remove it again, just slide the backing underneath it and gently peel it away from your desk.
The Logic series of mousepads are made of extremely thin plastic to make sure your arm doesn’t get uncomfortable touching the raised edge. Personally, I prefer thicker mousepads, since they are more comfortable to use without a wrist rest. I tested these mousepads with two tracking devices: corded mice. The first test device is an 800dpi Logitech LED mouse, but the second is a 1200dpi laser mouse from HP. I used these two mice with all three XTracPads mats in a variety of gaming and work environments. According to XTracPads, the hexagonal surface on two of the Logic mats improves tracking and precision, but in my own tests there seemed to be no benefit over the unpatterned black. If anything, I noticed more erratic cursor movement with the patterned mats than without them. Compared to my own XTracPads Fat Mat, I noticed less friction on the mousing surface, allowing for quicker movements, as well as enhanced precision with the 1200dpi laser mouse. Unfortunately, my experience with the Fat Mat was more comfortable with less unintended cursor movement. Another thing to note is that after the first application to your desktop, the mat’s adhesive backing is less sticky. It’s still adequate, but I can see this becoming a problem if you constantly readjust your mousepad.
Adhesive mousepads are an interesting idea, and I’m proud to say that I was pleased with the pads’ performance. With small and thin pads like those from the Logic series, they generally slide across your desk when you make any fast mouse movements, but these held firm to my desk throughout my gaming and browsing experiences. The fact that they are easily removable and the adhesive can be reused after a quick rinse under tap water is a great added value. After all, who wants a mousepad permanently stuck to their desk? They lack comfort, but make up for it with speed and precision that only a plastic mat can provide.
