Conclusion

There is plenty of space for the harddrive in this as it’s bigger than a standard enclosure. What I miss is a possibility to use it with SATA instead. On the right picture we have it mounted and ready to roll.

Well finally an in action picture so lets get on with the testing.
Testing:
We tested the Nexstar 2 with Sisoft Sandra 2005 and file benchmark. We ran it with USB2, Firewire and a IDE cable straight to the drive without the Nexstar 2 to see the difference.
USB2 26 mb/sFirewire 32 mb/s IDE cable 45 mb/s
As we can see normal IDE is alot faster, but what do you do when you don’t have anymore space in the case? Well then you might want to look into something like this as you get ok speeds with the Firewire connection. USB2 works very well also but I would prefer the firewire if you have the opportunity to run firwire.
Conclusion:
Well what to say about this product. After running it for awhile the drive gets really hot as the enclosure is not aluminum and does not have a fan to suck out the hot air. I also miss a SATA connector so you can run SATA drives. Overall though this is a decent product but has a few flaws that lower the final rating. It makes your drive very quiet though and installation is a piece of cake and it’s not to bad pricewise. It looks cool and was very well packed but as said the flaws lower the rating and we give this 3 out of 5 for a decent product which has the nice feature of either running USB2 or Firewire.
Pros:
+ Well packed
+ Looks cool
+ Easy installation
+ USB2 and Firewire
Cons:
- No SATA possibility
- No fan to cool the drive of
