Testing and conclusion
Testing the mousepads:
I’ve been using the mousepads for some time now. Each of them feels a bit different than the others. While I can’t say which is the best of them, I really prefer using Ulti-Mat’s products over the other ones (Steelpad and Icemat) I’ve been using for few years now. Each of the mousepads were currently reviewing feel very high quality, however there are something to keep in mind. Tests were done with Logitech MX518 and Logitech MX500 mouses.
Seven F-X2 has a bit sharp edge at first when you start using it. It is because of the thin plastic coating on it. The edge will get smoother over the time and after two to three weeks continuous using the edge is very smooth and the pad is comfortable to use. I discussed about this issue with Ulti-Mat and they said theres nothing they can do for it as the plastic coating must be in the whole area of the mouse. Despite that I’m using Seven F-X2 with my laptop and I’m very comfortable with it. It is easy to put in your laptop bag and get to lan parties.
Solid X3 is totally different than Seven F-X2. Because of much thicker plastic coating it feels much more slippery and I’m sure its preferred by some of the gamers. The size of X3 is more than enough for even serious gaming with high precision mouses and low sensitivity. Solid X3 is easy to keep clean as you can wash it under the flowing water and clean it with towel.
The last one to have a look at is Breathe X3. I have had breathe mousepad since 2005 when the first model was announced. Since then the Ulti-Mat logo has changed but the breathe mousepad is otherwise the same. While not being as slippery as Seven F-X2 or Solid X3, it is still very slippery and very good to use with high precision mouses.
Conclusion:
It is nice to see some competition in mousepad markets. All the Ulti-Mat mousepads are designed in Finland by gamers to gamers. Thats why those are really meant for gaming and you can see it. Being high quality and in reasonable price, I can really recommend these pads to everyone, no matter gamer or graphic designer or just casual computer user. You can check your nearest reseller in www.ulti-mat.com. Since every mousepad is different and different people like different coatings, I won’t give award to any mousepad particular. Instead I’ll give it to all three of them.
