Thermaltake Toughpower 550W PSU

Testing:

AMD 64+ 3200+ S939 Winchester
DFI lanparty UT nF4 Ultra
Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC4000
Sapphire X3000
Maxtor 80 GB 7200 rpm harddrive

We measured the voltages with a multimeter and load voltages were taken running Pcmark2005.

So far the testing has looked very good, but now it’s time to test the 12V rail and from time to time it tends to be a bit unstable with 0.2V differences on different power supplies.

This power supply has the same problem, the multimeter kept flipping between 12,12-12,13V but as far as I can see it didn’t do anything to the stability but under heavy usage like overclocking it might stop you from squeezing out the last mhz in the computer.

Conclusion:

This is a good power supply but there is a small flaw with it and that is the fan, the fan makes to much noise. It should be around 20dB but I don’t think it is as I can clearly hear the noise from it even without being close. Otherwise it worked great stability wise and the voltag rails were all decently stable. I like the sleeving of it also and it was extremely well packed in bubble wrap inside the box when it arrived. I have to say also that this powersupply has the most connectors I have ever seen on a PSU before, with four SATA, eight molex, and two PCI-E connectors plus the normal power ones.Overall I want to give this 4 out of 5 for a powerful power supply once again from Thermaltake.

Pros:

+ Sleeved cables
+ Well packed
+ Powerful
+ Loads of connectors
+ SLI ready

Cons:

- Loud fan

Red&Blackness gives it 5 out of 5 dots
