Silverstonetek St-460w PSU

Testing was done on the following rig:

AMD XP 2600+
Leadtek K7NcR18D Nforce 2
512mb 3700 Corsair DDR
20 Gb Maxtor 7200 rpm harddrive
Artic Silver 3
Liteon 16x cd burner

We measuerd the voltages from a molex connector using a multimeter. Full mode was gained by running 3dmark2001.

The 5V is actually at acceptable rates as we can see it’s almost the same as the Zalman PSU.

The 12V is seriously to low for overclockers to consider this power supply. For a normal user this will work but overclockers will be left out with this.

Conclusion:

The power supply is very quiet but it does not perform well in 12V which leaves out the overclockers as they want as the 12V to be as close to the 12V mark as possible. Normal users and people that want a quiet computer might find this an acceptable power supply to consider as it’s very quiet. Just for normal use I found the unit to work very stable and we had no re-boots or crashes whatsoever. All in all we give this 3 out of 5 for a very quiet power supply that lacks a bit on performance on the 12V rail.

Pros:

+ Nice looking (colors)
+ Quiet!
+ Very well packed
+ Many molex connectors
+ Sleeved ATX connector

Cons:

- To LOW on 12v rail

Red&Blackness gives it 3 out of 5 dots
