Introduction
OCZ makes great memory we all know that, but how do they do in the flash memory market? They recently released their new memory stick that they decided to call Rally, it’s available from 512mb to 2Gb versions and we will be comparing this to some other memory sticks to see how this product performs.
About Ocz:
Entering the memory market in August 2000, OCZ Technology was built around the determination to manufacture the best high speed DDR and RDRAM. OCZ was founded by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts, and our commitment to the end-user has not digressed. OCZ Technology has been an innovator in many areas. We were the first manufacturer to make Dual Channel optimized memory available to the public, which originally took advantage of nVidia’s Twinbank or Dual DDR architecture, found in their nForce chipset. We have now taken that technology and tailored it for the Canterwood, and Granite Bay chipset’s. OCZ developed and was the first to implement ULN technology, which has been a critical element in our manufacturing process for some time.We at OCZ diligently work to improve communication with CPU and motherboard chipset manufacturers prior to the release of their products. Only in this manner can we fine-tune our memory’s SPD settings, ensuring a synergistic relationship between the memory module, memory controller, and microprocessor. In todays rapidly evolving semiconductor industry, such communication is not simply research, but a necessary component of our manufacturing process.

The product came very well packed in this plastic container that included the unit, usb extension cable and a neckstrap so you can hang it around your neck. We can already see how small this memory stick really is, its almost half the size of the smallest memory sticks I have reviewed in the past.

Here we have a close-up of the neckstrap and the usb extension cable. You can clearly see the size difference with the memory stick itself which comes in a black color with a metal casing. On one of the sides OCZ has printed ‘Rally’ which is the name for this device and on the cap you see the OCZ logo.

On the other side of the stick you got the familiar OCZ logo , and by removing the cap you uncover the USB connector. The cap is quite small so see to it that you dont loose it.

I felt I had to come up with some kind of size comparison, so these are the results you get from the left: the OCZ stick, X-micro memory stick, JOS Mp400 mp3 player, and my SonyEricsson V800 cell phone. We can clearly see how small this is, it’s about the size of my little finger. When you are running this memory stick the device shines with a blue led so you can see when it’s plugged in.
