Ocz Powerstream 520w
I still love my Modstream power supply from OCZ but today there might be something that will change that feeling. We got a new “monster” power supply named Powerstream from them for review and this product really seems to be able to squeeze the most out of a power supply even under heavy overcloking. We will compare this to the Modstream and vs a Coolermaster power supply that also performs extremely well.
About Ocz:
Entering the memory market in August 2000, OCZ Technology was built around the determination to manufacture the best high speed DDR and RDRAM. OCZ was founded by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts, and our commitment to the end-user has not digressed. OCZ Technology has been an innovator in many areas. We were the first manufacturer to make Dual Channel optimized memory available to the public, which originally took advantage of nVidia’s Twinbank or Dual DDR architecture, found in their nForce chipset. We have now taken that technology and tailored it for the Canterwood, and Granite Bay chipset’s. OCZ developed and was the first to implement ULN technology, which has been a critical element in our manufacturing process for some time. We at OCZ diligently work to improve communication with CPU and motherboard chipset manufacturers prior to the release of their products. Only in this manner can we fine-tune our memory’s SPD settings, ensuring a synergistic relationship between the memory module, memory controller, and microprocessor. In todays rapidly evolving semiconductor industry, such communication is not simply research, but a necessary component of our manufacturing process.

The package usually tells a bit about the quality of the product, since the effort you put in overall on the product shows on the package also. Here OCZ has made a really good job by putting together a very informative box with a picture of the unit in the front and on the side you can find the voltages and on the back you have some features on french, german and enlglish.

Included with the power supply is some velcor zip ties to mount the cables together to make it look less messy. The finish on the power supply is amazingly cool and the cables are sleeved with the power enhancing cables to maximize the performance.

30 amps on both 12 and 5v is just amazing its the first time I see that. It will be interesting to see how it performs also under load. There is a fan in the back and in the front of the PSU which makes a little bit more noise than the Modstream but its pretty minimal.
