Conclusion

Original DVD:

This drive is also faster at reading dvds; so thus far it’s faster at reading both audio cds and dvds. It’s a little slower reading a normal data cd but faster reading a copy of the data cd.

Burned DVD:

We have the same average read times on a burned dvd. It’s time for the final test and we will see which one is faster in reading a burned copy of a movie on a DVDRW.

Burned DVDRW copy:

This decides it as the DDW-082 is a tiny bit faster on reading a DVDRW DVD. I have to say that they have done some upgrades on their new DVDRW player and hopefully future firmwares will speed it up a little bit more.

Conclusion:

To conclude this I have to say that both these drives are fast and very stable. But as expected the DDW-082 is faster since it’s newer and it also has dual (+/-) burning so the choice if pretty obvious. You get a fast drive that performs very well and also offers dual burning and also MT rainier which you can read on the first page about. Testing shows it all so I can pretty much conclude this review with giving this drive our recommendations and 5 out of 5 for a very good drive that is fast and has tons of nice features that you will have use for in the future to.

After this review I found a new firmware update which should enhance the cd/dvd read speeds so if you want to update do so :) Remember that it’s your own resposibility!

Pros:

+ Fast
+ Stable
+ Well packed
+ Good software included

Cons:

- None
