loser look at the Viper
Today we will be looking at two 3.5” SATA hard drive enclosures from Hornettek: the Viper and Hover. While in the end they perform the same task, these units cater to different markets. We’ll be taking a look at each of their features, but first, here’s some background information.

Hornettek Viper:

The Hornettek Viper is the more basic of the two products. It is made from rigid aluminum and finished in flat black.

While the Hornettek Viper does support hot swap in eSATA mode, it is important to note that the SATA controller must also support hot swapping in order for that feature to function.
The vertical stand is nice for saving desk real estate. It also dampens vibration and noise with hard foam material where the hard drive sits.

Hornettek provides all that is required to assemble the enclosure with a hard drive. They even include extra screws!
The rear shows the Viper’s connections: USB 2.0, eSATA, and a 12VDC input for power. There is also a toggle switch to turn the unit on or off.
A Closer Look:
The power and activity LEDs are located near the top front and are blue in color. Hornettek struck the perfect balance with these LEDs. They are bright enough to see, but are not overly bright; they will not keep you up at night.
