Testing the Hitachi 1 TB
Intel Core i7 920 CPU
Asus Rampage 2 Extreme
Patriot TorqX 64Gb SSD
Coolermaster M700 PSU
Testing was done with Sisoft Sandra 2009, ATTO and HDTune.
ATTO HDD Benchmark:
On the left we see the Hitachi drive while on the right we have displayed an older Western Digital Caviar 250GB 16mb. The Hitachi drive is alot faster it’s actually up to four times faster in this test. We have also included a shot of a SSD drive in action to show you the performance difference.
The write speeds on the Hitachi drive is faster but when it comes to reading it won’t stand a chance vs the SSD drive.
With the Hitachi drive we got a 90.4Mb/s average transfer rate while the Western Digital only got a 53.2Mb/s. The Access time is still though similar while the Hitachi uses a bit more Cpu power than the WD drive.
The SSD drive is of course alot faster than the others at most points with superb speed at access times but it also uses more cpu power than the others. I want to point out that a normal SATA cannot be compared vs a SSD drive but we included it just to give you an idea.
