Case fans come in a wide variety of sizes, with the most popular ones being 80mm and 120mm. But is there any way to squeeze more fan blade area in a standard size fan? Evercool, makers of a wide range of fans, has produced a new product, the Evercool Rifling RF-8 80mm Case fan, that provides 92mm fan blades in an 80mm housing. The Evercool Rifling 80mm fan arrived in a colorful package with a solder on the front taking aim at your heating problems. The back of the package describes some of the unique features of the fan and the specifications. In particular, it highlights the fans “rifling” design, which creates higher air pressure by funneling/rifling the air.
Our sample came in the 80mm size; unfortunately Evercool does not offer a larger 120mm fan with this same design.

Opening up the package, the fan and its associated accessories are found to be well-secured in a customized plastic form. Along with the fan itself, the package comes with a 3:4 pin adaptor, and a set of regular fan screws. Unfortunately there are no other high end fan features such as vibration isolators or ways to regulate the speed of the fan.

The fan itself has a nice gun-metal grey finish that is very light weight and looks nice. As you can see, the fan has a compact design that maximizes the fan blade surface area. They are able to package 92mm fan blades inside a 80mm housing, which provides better airflow and less noise/vibration than your typical 80mm fan.
Once installed and powered-on, I was surprised to find that the fan was very quiet compared to the stock fans in the case. The noise performance was on par with other high end fans such as those made by Noctua, though only when those fans are at high speeds. The fan seemed to be very balanced, and I couldn’t feel any vibrations on the case. The airflow created by the fan is higher than most 80mm fans, which can be expected since it has 92mm blades.
Conclusion:
The Evercool Rifling RF-8 80mm case fan is a decent case fan that provides quiet operations and higher airflow than most 80mm fans on the market. It is easy to install and works well. While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of some of the higher end fans, it is a solid product that deserves consideration for your next build.
