The Evercool Buffalo CPU cooler came in a colorful, black-glossy package with a picture of the cooler on the front and back. One side of the package provides the list of the features/specifications, and the other provides the installation instructions.Interestingly, the packaging has the word buffalo misspelled at least two different ways on the package; the package designers might want to run their text through a spell-checker before sending it to print.

Once opened, the first thing that I noticed was the colorful picture of what appears to be a bullfight on the top of the cooler.(Since when do buffalos bullfight?I know it has nothing to do with the cooler itself, but I thought it was just a little odd.)Anyway, removing the cooler from the packaging, we see that the cooler is a vertical cooler with a set of radiator fins and heat pipes connected to a copper base. The cooler also comes with some thermal paste.

Looking closely at the cooler, its design is very similar to a lot of vertical coolers on the market. The fan well-secured to the radiator fins and has deep red blades, which is a different color than most fans. The cooler has a fairly thin profile and is fairly lightweight.

The heat sink is made of a machined copper base that interfaces with the CPU and a set of fins connected by four copper heat-pipes.The copper base appeared to be machined-smooth and free of imperfections, and it came with a protective plastic sleeve that weve come to expect with most coolers. The bracket that secures the cooler to the motherboard is permanently connected to the cooler and has no screws or separate brackets, which should make installation easy. However, unlike many coolers, this cooler model is only compatible with AMD CPUs; Evercool does offer another model that is compatible with Intel CPUs as well. But ideally I would have liked to have seen a single cooler model that is compatible with both.
