First we will take a look at the USB 3.0 ExpressCard Adapter for laptops. ExpressCards is an easy way to expand your laptops connectivity in various ways. The front side of the packet has basic details about the adapter and advertised speed figures in it. Buffalo advertises the adapter as being capable of up to 185MB/s speeds in USB3 and 33.2MB/s speeds in USB2.0 mode. The adapter has a three year warranty and gives you two USB3.0 ports. The full model name of the adapter is IFC-EC2U3/UC2 and it is priced around 50€ and is widely available as we speak.

Inside the cardboard box we have a driver CD, the actual adapter, small power cord (to provide extra juice for the adapter in case it is needed), a small manual brochure and a warranty statement. Nothing suprising here; Buffalo provides us all we need and nothing extra.

Let’s take a closer look at the actual adapter. It is based on Express Card/34 standard, meaning it is 34mm in width. There are two USB3 slots located in the other end of the adapter and the power plug is in the right side of the adapter. When fully plugged into your laptop the adapter will stick quite a bit out so it is not the most invisible adapter around, but that shouldn’t be a problem in most cases as Express Cards are hotpluggable so you can easily plug them in and out while your computer is running.
