I have a question; is it possible get a decent cpu for 90$? That is one of several questions you will get an answer to in this review. We are taking a look at the Phenom 2 X4 840 Cpu today, we are going to compare it vs some other AMD cpu’s on the market and finally figure out if you can get a good cpu for 90$.

Our samples come packed in these green tray packages. Not much to be said about the CPU itself as it looks like all AMD cpu’s on the market right now, the difference is the print on the top of it since it shows you which CPU you have.
Testing:
Testing was done with the following system.
AMD Phenom 2 X6 1075T CPU
Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 Motherboard
Patriot Viper 2 Sector 5 DDR3
Crucial 64GB SSD
Asus 9800GT Videocard
Windows was installed and patched with all the latest up to date drivers. The following software was used during testing, Pcmark Vantage, Sisoft Sandra 2010, SuperPi and Winrar. Overclocking was done with AMD Overlock Utility.
Sisoft Sandra 2011, Cpu Arithmetic:
We used both a older Phenom 2 965BE and a newer Phenom 2 X6 1075 CPU to compare vs, the 840 is the cheapest CPU of these three so its going to be interesting to see how well this CPU performs. The cpu performs similar to the 965BE CPU in the CPU arithmetic test in Sandra 2010.
