As before, AMD sent us the tray version of the processor. It came in a small black square shaped box which has a AMD logo on top of it. On top of the processor you can find the name and the model of it along with production week information.

Test setup:

AMD Phenom II X4 905e
AMD Athlon II X4 640
AMD Athlon II X4 635
Asus M4A785TD-M EVO
2x2GB Walton Chaintech 1600MHz DDR3 kit
Seagate 500GB SATA HDD
ECS Geforce 9800GT

Testing was done using following software, Sisoft Sandra 2009, PCMark Vantage, Superpi, Winrar. We will compare AMD Athlon II X4 640 against the older 635 model and low end AMD Phenom II X4 905e which is similarly priced as the 640.

PCMark Vantage:

AMD Athlon2 X4 640

In PC Mark Vantage the Athlon II X4 640 performs a bit better in overall than the older 635 model thanks to the higher frequency. However, the AMD Phenom II 905e performs better in the gaming score than the Athlon II:s because of the L3 cache which the Athlon’s lack. The trend is similar to the one we saw in the review of Athlon II X4 635 couple months ago.
